On June 17 2022 the VA legislature voted against this law in part during their special session. It impacts some inmates who thought it would apply to them on 7/1/2022. It was only repealed for sentences for “nonviolent offenses” (as defined in 53.1-202.3) that are being served along with “violent” offenses.
