The nominees for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards

The Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category honors a pop performance put on by a duo or group. If a song wins Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, the award goes to the artists that performed the song.

As a refresher, there are five nominees for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

The nominees are:

  • Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “I Get a Kick Out of You”
  • Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco, “Lonely”
  • BTS, “Butter”
  • Coldplay, “Higher Power”
  • Doja Cat featuring SZA, “Kiss Me More”

Front-runner: Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga

In the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, Bennett and Lady Gaga are truly the act to beat. Since nominations were announced, the duo’s song “I Get a Kick Out of You” has been a heavy favorite.

The song “I Get a Kick Out of You” was originally released in 1934 in the musical Anything Goes, making it a classic that will be well known to voters.

Bennett and Lady Gaga covered the song as part of their 2021 album Love for Sale. Because Bennett retired from performing in 2021, Love for Sale is considered to be his last studio album.

Lady Gaga and Bennett are nominated in other categories at the 2022 Grammy Awards. However, the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category seems like the most surefire way the Recording Academy can honor Bennett, as artists like Olivia Rodrigo are expected to dominate the General Field (Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year).

On top of that, Lady Gaga has already won in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category twice, and Bennett has won the award once before.

The odds of another act winning Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards

Of course, there is always the chance another act could beat Bennett and Lady Gaga. Below, we’ve explained our reasoning as to why two nominees could end up winning the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category instead.

Next Likely Winner: Doja Cat featuring SZA, “Kiss Me More”

“Kiss Me More” is the lead single from Doja Cat’s 2021 album Planet Her. The song has not wavered in popularity since its release, much like Doja Cat.

While “I Get a Kick Out of You” appeals to voters as a classic, “Kiss Me More” is a modern hit. The song trended on TikTok, achieved massive streams on Spotify, and has consistent radio play.

To top it off, “Kiss Me More” is also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Doja Cat has a total of eight nominations and SZA has five, increasing the artists’ chances.

Could Pull an Upset: BTS, “Butter”

While Bieber has eight Grammy nominations this year like Doja Cat, we think BTS could be the next most likely to win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

“Butter” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent multiple weeks at the top of the chart. It also received multiple 2021 Song of the Summer accolades.

This is BTS’ second time being nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, and the septet’s performance at the 2022 Grammy Awards is highly anticipated.
