Prey

Prey image 1

Overview

Prey, known as Fresh-kill by clan cats and loners (after being caught), are the animals warriors catch to eat. These include rabbits, frogs, mice, fish, squirrels, birds, and more.

Prior to its release, there were two short testing sessions about 30 minutes long hosted by the developers, open to the public.

Prey and hunting was released on May 7th at 2pm EST/11am PST, along with a new map. You can find more information about the update's progress on the Discord, Roadmap, and Twitter.

Currently, only rabbits, rainbow trout, song thrush, wood mice, squirrels, and frogs have been added into the game. The squirrels and frogs did not come out the same time as the other prey, they came out in the Prey Update V2. Rats will be added in the future when they are fixed.

Types Of Prey

Black Rat

Upcoming updates to Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition may include the addition of the black rat as a potential prey animal. This model's name is Touille, according to Bavelly, a developer. Rats were an item the player could pick up in the game prior to the prey update though inedible but they were removed and have not been added again since. Was previously found in the Rogues and Loners barn. It has black fur and pink ears, legs, and tail. Is shown in the same position as the wood mouse inside the fresh-kill menu, slightly curled with its tail drooping and curled. Its presumed maximum quantity in the fresh-kill pile is four.

EuropeanCommonFrog

European Common Frog

The frog is now released in the recent update, given the endearing name Murcus by the creators. It can be found inside clan fresh-kill piles with a maximum of five frogs per clan fresh-kill pile. It is shown inside the fresh-kill menu with limbs sprawled apart. It is shown in the fresh-kill pile with orange eyes and dilated pupils, a light green underbelly, and light green legs with black markings. The rest of its body is orangeish green with black markings on its back. Frogs can be found near the rivers of RiverClan Territory and the marshes of ShadowClan Territory.

The frog's scent trail is a light teal, and its frame will be highlighted in dark blue when hunting mode is on.

EuropeanRabbit

European Rabbit

Another prey item that is known is the rabbit, and currently can be found anywhere. It is colored grey-brown with a white underbelly, white tail, and long ears with pink insides. They can be found in rabbit burrows, which are light brown mounds in the ground with five holes drilled into them. Its maximum quantity in the fresh-kill pile is five.

The rabbit's scent trail is green, and its frame will be highlighted in green when hunting mode is on.

GreySquirrel

Grey Squirrel

The squirrel was the first prey model to be posted by Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition developer, Bavelly, and has not been given a name, unlike many other models. It is shown curled in the form of a ball with its tail in between its legs in the fresh-kill pile menu. It is shown greyish brown with black eyes, brown ears, and a white underbelly. Its maximum quantity in the fresh-kill pile is four.

The squirrel's scent trail is purple, and its frame will be highlighted in red when hunting mode is on.

RainbowTrout

Rainbow Trout

Another species included in the game is the rainbow trout, a species of fish (and, as of writing, pictured on the game's thumbnail). The Trout has a reflective grey body with pink, orange, blue, and green tint in certain places. Inside the fresh-kill pile, they have a maximum quantity of six and are displayed in the same position they would be in when clamped between a cat's jaws. It has orange fins and black eyes surrounded in an orange ring. The Trout's mouth is open and when held by the player, will have its tail drooping down but the rest of its body straight. The Rainbow Trout do not have toes or feet. Trout can be caught in rivers, while going to fishing beacons all around the map when in hunting mode. They have no scent trail, however when you are in hunting mode and by a large body of water, you will see a light blue or white beacon displaying a fish symbol at the top, showing you can fish there.

As you get closer, a rainbow and shining aura that emits white orbs can be seen around a fish icon on top of the beacon. The fish is white, and so is the rest of the beacon. (Excluding the bottom sparkles and rainbow aura.) Small blue sparkles can be seen wafting around the bottom of the beacon as well. The beacon will change the direction it's facing depending upon your position viewing it, since it is an image and not a solid object, hence why it has no collision. The fishing beacons cannot be found in certain bodies of water and can be found in RiverClan, ShadowClan, and the Gorge. The beacon extends from an orb with a vortex like appearance and the center almost resembles a cherry blossom. Branches of the orb enlarge while straying back from the center and more generate from the center. The outermost and largest branches fade away into nothingness. Two streaks of light orbit around the beacon in a fashion like strands of DNA.

You can activate the fishing mode by trotting to one of the fishing beacons and clicking the button that appears. You will be confronted with a minigame that will show a bar displaying a side-scrolling rush of water. While participating in the minigame, the player will perform a animation where they slowly sway their tail and head with their ears back, straight up with alert. The rush of water also carries straight white streaks and white squiggles that float along through the bar and straight white streaks. There will be a green square that remains in the center of the bar. A golden fish with orange towards the tips will side scroll into the bar after a while and to catch it you're required to press the "Grab Fish" button on your screen when any part of the fish image is present inside the green square. To exit this minigame, press the "Stop Fishing" button in the bottom left. Once you stop the minigame or complete it, the beacon will not appear again until it regenerates. If you successfully complete the minigame, your cat will perform an animation like pulling a fish out of the water and a rainbow trout will appear in your jaws. If you press the "Grab Fish" button while the green square isn't on a fish, your grab fish button will be on cooldown for a few seconds and the green square will tint red before quickly shifting back to green.

When eaten with the number 6 key by the player, the player will appear crouching a little bit in front of the Trout's head and perform the eating animation. The eating animation may be disturbed by the player walking or jumping while it happens. The Trout can be grabbed with the 5 key and will change sizes depending on the size of the cat that picks up the Trout.

Song Thrush

One prey type for the game is the song thrush, a little brown bird with a speckled white tummy, black eyes and sharp beak, and brown tipped tail and wings. It has been animated slightly. One of the prey models with a name is the song thrush model that Bavelly has given the name Rushi. When startled, birds will fly away and if tracking the bird, the scent trail will end. (You'll be unable to hunt it.) Birds spawn everywhere, however seem to be more common in ThunderClan territory. Birds’ nests may be added, but only birds on the ground will be able to be hunted. Birds in trees will not be able to be hunted.

The thrush's scent trail is blue, and its frame will be highlighted in blue when hunting mode is on.

WoodMouse

Wood Mouse

As of release, wood mice are small, slow, brown, white under-bellied, with small pink hands, ears, and a tail. and they have designated mouse holes or dens to hide in. They're light brown with one small hole and wood mice can usually found hovering on top of them. There are 30 wood mice on the map at a time. When in startled state, will skitter around until no longer startled. Is shown in the same position as the black rat inside the fresh-kill menu, slightly curled with its tail drooping and curled. Its maximum quantity in the fresh-kill pile is ten, the most of all prey limits. Wood Mice can be found in WindClan Territory.

The wood mouse's scent trail is orange, and its frame will be highlighted in orange when hunting mode is on.
