A Million Little Things‘ endgame is in sight.
TVLine has learned exclusively that the ABC drama’s creator, DJ Nash, is crafting the series’ upcoming fifth season as its last.
ABC is not commenting for this story, but we’re told the decision to bring the show to a creatively satisfying conclusion was made mutually between Nash, the network and ABC Signature/Kapital Entertainment. (Here’s a list of other TV series we suspect are heading into their final seasons.)
A Million Little Things‘ Season 5 renewal last May came down to the wire, despite the fact that the Season 4 finale ended with a doozy of a cliffhanger involving James Roday Rodriguez’ cancer-battling Gary.
“There’s no question we were a bubble show,” Nash acknowledged to TVLine at the time. “But everybody creatively at ABC was so supportive and wanted to see [a fifth season] happen. And we knew that if it didn’t happen, our fans would be like, “You can’t end a series like that!”
In Season 4, A Million Little Things averaged 4.1 million total weekly viewers and a 0.7 demo rating (with Live+7 playback) — down 20 and 30 percent from its Season 3 tallies. Out of the eight dramas ABC has aired last season, it ranked No. 6 in audience and tied for fifth in the demo. It did, though, enjoy the second-best DVR bump of any ABC series.
A Million Little Things‘ fifth season is slated to bow in early 2023 on ABC.
Five seasons is a great run for any show and all involved should be proud of what they achieved.
Yes, it’s time and we get a proper ending as well, so it’s a win win.
stupid. abc has nothing but game shows on which isn’t for everyone, all my good shows ending. it’s no wonder i watch streaming more & more
Nothing but gameshows? then what is Dancing With the Stars doing on Disney+ it’ll be more like nothing but the bachelor franchise
Dancing with the stars isn’t a game show.
agreed!
So true. ABC seems to cancel all the good shows. I find myself watching CBS more and more. I look forward to AMLT every season .. Next it will be The Good Doctor!!
I totally agree with you. A Great show comes n “NBC” I guess didn’t make enough money! Yeah NOT…SAD
what do “poised to” mean here? Is it ending or is it not?
It means that it hasn’t been officially announced by the network, but everyone is working under the assumption that this is the final season.
Can’t believe this will be the end of a million little things. One of the best shows on tv.
😭
I’ve been just now binge watching all 4 seasons and just love this show! I’ll be anticipating season 5 and don’t want it to end!
Good decision. It was beginning to drag a bit last season.
One of my favorite shows. I’ll be sad to see it go.
I loved the first couple of seasons but the writers lost their way at some point. Time to let everyone have their happily ever afters (I will be destroyed if we don’t see Gary and Maggie as happy parents).
Love this show hate to see it end hopefully another network picks it up or perhaps they change there mind this show remains me of another show called 40 something another show I loved so heartbroken in Mississippi 💔💔💔
Are you thinking of Thirtysomething? We didn’t ever get a finale for that show. At least with this one we will.
I love good drama. Every time we get a good drama going, it is canceled. So, now, I know if I like it, it won’t last!
It should have ended two seasons ago.
LOL
I’m assuming that means you stopped watching 2 seasons ago.
sad to see it go. I look forward to watching it and enjoy the cast and storylines.
I’m glad we’re getting a 5th season and an ending to the show. Nothing worse getting left with a cliffhanger. Thanks ABC for giving us this. I really enjoy this show
ABC had already renewed the show for a 5th season. So the fact that DJ Nash decided it was the final season was his decision. I am sure he didn’t like the last couple seasons being up in the air (or so it seems with the fact it always got the renewal news later than many many many shows) so he probably was like well I want the show to end on my terms for the cast and for the audience
Love this show!! Please bring it back sooner. They can’t leave the good storyline in jeopardy .
So sad. Good drama is hard to find and yet all the stupid reality shows go on and on. I guess another reason to cut the cord
Will miss it if this is true. But I’d rather it end before it goes stale.
I’ll be sad to see it go – it’s superb.
AGREED
Could’ve done this with American Housewife instead of pulling out the rug from under them!
I am pretty upset about it the show ending. Some of the new shows that were just put on are being cancelled already!! The networks might try putting the new shows on during the off season for the other shows. People who want something new to watch may be more willing to watch a new show if everything else is a rerun. Please quit taking off the shows that have at least some kind of background to them. Give the new shows a real go of it let word of mouth do it’s thing FIRST BEFORE you decide to pull the plug yet!!!!
Sry dysend same comment about million little things 2 times my stylus is going flat Please post 1of my comments
Thank you
Love A million Little Things, can’t wait for season 5, but saddened that yet another great show is ending😩
My idea for the final season … have each episode be about one member of the cast calling the Dr. Maggie show to give their lamentations about how their lives turned out and Dr.Maggie could tell them what they SHOULD have done. This could be done way cheaper than the normal costs and would probably have better ratings.
The reason this show struggled with renewals was because of stupid writers. They had amazing actors and outlandish plots that should have been on daytime soaps in the 1980s. I gave up on this show because I felt like the next plot twist would be a secret twin or faked cancer or any other plot recycled from the glory days of General Hospital.
It’s time. At least they can end it the way they like and give it a proper send off.
While I am REALLY sad to see this show go, at least they get to go out on their own terms and we the audience gets some closure.
We enjoy it. Considering how much the original premise and character focus of the show has changed, a a well planned and executed exit strategy would be nice.
I know it sounds mean— but I won’t miss Theo’s precociousness. LOL
OMG I know it is terrible to say, but I don’t know that I find a character on any show as viscerally annoying as I do Theo. And then I feel bad because he’s a child, but like….he is the WORST! LOL
And at the same time, the adults on the show treat the character like a he’s perpetually 4 years old. While he actor is now a teenager, who’s only 2 years younger then the actor who plays Danny.
Well we better get at least 18 episodes
