Luscious Keto Peach Milkshake (i.e. Hack!) 🍑

You know, a Chick-fil-A copycat but totally healthified! And yet, this keto peach milkshake totally measures up to the original in both its fresh taste and luscious texture.

Keto Peach Milkshake

(A fairly instant) hack!

As I was testing a few versions around of this recipe this month, one thing became clear fairly quickly: you could *totally* forgo the ice cream. You know, with no detriment whatsoever (vip!) to the final result- all while shaving off some carbs and saving some $ while we’re at it.

So all you need is a bomb of a peach (diced and frozen), almond milk (or heavy cream and a little water)(or just pretty much your milk of choice), a sweetener (preferably liquid allulose of some sort), vanilla extract, and a decent blender.

Talking decent blenders, I decided to finally invest (splurge?) on a Vitamix this summer. Ummm guys, I’m in love. Things come out extra luscious in half the time of a bullet, and its much easier to clean (as in it has a feature to self clean). So yes, I most definitely do recommend. I bought this small version, perfect for 1 or 2 peeps, for super dope for smoothies, milkshakes and soups.

Ummm… but are peaches keto? 🍑

I guess the most straight forward answer is: its up to you (or your macros that is!), as peaches are widely considered a fairly low carb fruit. Therefore in moderate amounts, peaches can be totally keto friendly.

To give you an idea, peaches contain roughly 13g of net carbs per cupcompared to 7g net in raspberries and 17g net in blueberries.

Pssst! So if you want to reduce (or eliminate!) the carbs here you’re gonna have to get rid of the peach itself. If you wanna go down this route, I suggest you procure some peach extract (this one’s pretty good, just use very sparingly: 1/8-1/4 tsp!). And you’ll want to add in a scoop or two of your favorite keto vanilla ice cream for texture and sweetness.

Pssst number two! You can also go ahead and add in a touch of peach extract either way if you want to amp up the peachy taste (or if, you know, your peaches sadly kinda suck).

The best sweeteners (for keto milkshakes!)

OK so sure, you can use a granulated sweetener if you don’t have anything else handy. Allulose and xylitol will dissolve completely into liquids with a little coaxing, but do note that erythritol has a tendency to stay slightly crunchy.

So trust me when I say that a liquid sweetener will work much better. This pure allulose is my absolute favorite to sweeten any type of beverage, with its biggest plus incidentally being no aftertaste whatsoever.

*And if just doing paleo, maple syrup is the way to go here.

And… the video story!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup peach diced and frozen (about 1 medium)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk (or milk of choice!), as needed
  • 2 tablespoons liquid allulose or sweetener of choice, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch pink Himalayan salt or salt of choice

Instructions

  • Add frozen peach, milk of choice (I do unsweetened almond or a mix of heavy cream and a little water), sweetener of choice (again, cannot recommend liquid allulose enough), vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to a blender.
  • Blend until its all super (duper!) creamy smooth.
  • My top tip(s): for easier blending try and make sure you break up your frozen peach (you know, so its not a big block of ice that takes forever to blend). Oh, and if you do overblend... just go ahead and add in a little ice and pretend like nothing happened.
  • Pssst! But if you want to reduce (or eliminate!) the carbs here you're gonna have to get rid of the peach itself. So if you wanna go down this route, I suggest you procure some peach extract (this one's pretty good, just use very sparingly: 1/8-1/4 tsp will do!). And you'll want to add in a scoop or two of your favorite keto vanilla ice cream for texture and sweetness (yes, you can then skip the sweettener btw).

Hi Paola! I love the idea of this milkshake, and it just so happens that I have two white peaches sitting on my counter. My question is this: could I make this recipe using any fruit I desire (e.g., blueberries, raspberries)?

    • Paola van der Hulst says:

      Ooooh white peaches! 🤤

So yes for sure you can, but I have found that peaches lend themselves particularly well texture wise so the shake comes out extra creamy without needing to add ice cream (I.e. it might be a little bit more icy with berries, and will work particularly well with strawberries xo!!)

Wow, this is delicious! I used a medium peach (123g), 1/4 cup macadamia milk, and a dropper of liquid stevia. I skipped dicing and freezing the peach and added some crushed ice instead, which worked great. It came out to 10.3g net carbs, so not too bad.

I finally got around to making it last night, as grocery shopping has become a bit of a hindrance in these times and had no peaches in the house. My only regret is that I didn’t get more peaches, it’s excellent and simple. I used half a peach and it was a good compromise. Will try my hand at the peach shortcake too

This post is very enlightening. I have been on strict keto for over a year and I have confidence I can work this into my macros for one day in the last days of summer. I will just have to be mindful. I deserve a fresh peach!!!! Thank you Paola! I can’t wait!

I think I answered your question a couple times in the post already Marcelle (as it’s an important one), and I’m also giving you guys an option to reduce carbs (or basically eliminate them!).

I knew this wasn’t going to go down with everyone, but I think a lot of us who have been doing keto for a long time have realized that going a bit in and out of ketosis isn’t a bad thing (Martina from DietApp posted her thoughts on this too on her Instagram). Even if I whole heartedly believe in the keto diet as a whole (no one can deny we’re consuming waaaaay too much sugar in the traditional SAD diet right?), I also don’t see a peach as the enemy (or carbs for that matter). As I know those 15g of net carbs won’t have a serious impact on my GI (perhaps others are more sensitive?). What I do avoid are things like actual milkshakes and highly refined sugars (say the whooping 100g of sugar in the original Chick-fil-A one). I think we all feel the sugar high with those, and those extreme jolts are the ones I try to avoid. Xo!!

Thank You Paola!! You read my mind! It was killing me not being able to try that shake at Chick-Fil- A. I can’t wait to try it. No peaches on hand.

This was good with maple syrup! I went a bit off the rails this past year and trying to ease back into shape with paleo.

          Isn’t it great Kate?!

And on the peaches, this is what I mean by it depends on your macros. If you’re doing keto with around 50g net carbs, you can totally fit it in. But if you’re trying to truly keep carbs at a minimum you might want to use an extract.

I’ve been doing keto (on and off) for nearly 5 years now, and the best advice I can give is that once you become fat adapted (and particularly if you do some form of intermittent fasting and are active), you can eat more carbs than you think. And by carbs I also been good carbs (not corn syrup etc which really do spike your GI tremendously). Xo!

          • Marie says:

Thanks Paola. This is exactly what I’ve found with keto too. And it’s great to find recipes that fit that mindset.
Love ALL your recipes (not just this one). Thank you xx
Another tip for people who want lower carbs but still the odd “treat” is portion control. I’d drink a half portion of this and feel very happy — half the amount, half the carbs!
Just share with someone like-minded! Or save the other half for the next day.
