The 2022 U.S. Open is here and it is poised to be a dramatic one for professional golf. The landscape of the sport is shifting a bit, as the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour is attempting to challenge the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf held its first event last week and has had success recruiting players away from the PGA Tour. Big names like Dustin JohnsonPhil MickelsonBryson DeChambeauPatrick Reed and Rickie Fowler are all set to play in LIV Golf and have been suspended from the PGA Tour as a result.

That said, they are still eligible to compete in majors for the time being. So, they will be going head-to-head with the PGA Tour's finest at the USGA-hosted U.S. Open.

That underlying drama will make for an intriguing week at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Players on the PGA Tour, like Rory McIlroy, haven't been afraid to take shots at the new golf league. While they all seem to maintain cordial relationships, it will be interesting to see exactly what is the tone of this week's competition.

Given the status of golf's mini-rebellion and the fact that the U.S. Open is one of the four majors, tickets to the event will certainly be a hot commodity. Sure, Tiger Woods sitting out this event may keep the price from shooting through the roof, but the tickets will still cost a pretty penny for those wanting to see if Jon Rahm can defend his first major title.

Here's what you need to know about the price of tickets for the U.S. Open, including the cheapest and most expensive tickets for the event.

How much are U.S. Open tickets in 2022?

There are several factors that will impact how much a ticket to the U.S. Open might cost in 2022.

To begin with, a ticket to the first day of the event on Thursday will be much cheaper than a ticket for Saturday's round. However, Sunday currently has the cheapest tickets available despite being the most exciting day of the tournament.

Why is that? It may be because Game 7 of the 2022 NBA Finals is set to take place that day. The Celtics are playing the Warriors in the finals, so that could put a damper on ticket sales for the Boston-based U.S. Open.

Additionally, fans will have to choose whether they want to buy a ticket for one day of the event or whether they want to buy a pass for the whole weekend, which costs roughly $1,500. That will have an impact on the cost of tickets.

Tickets can only be purchased through resellers at this point. The USGA lists them as sold out, though they do have an official ticket resale marketplace on their website.

How much did U.S. Open tickets cost in 2021?

It would appear that U.S. Open tickets were slightly cheaper in 2021 than they were in 2022. According to Golf.com, the opening prices for the 2021 U.S. Open ranged from $50 to $950.

  • Daily Gallery: $50
  • Reserved Grandstand: $250
  • Weekly Gallery: $625
  • Champions Pavilion: $675
  • Weekly Beer Garden Featuring Corona Premier: $950

That may look a lot cheaper than this year's tickets, but it's important to note that those were the ticket prices when the tickets first went on sale in 2021. The current tickets available for the 2022 U.S. Open are available only on the resale market, where they have been decisively marked up.

U.S. Open tickets cost an average of $165 to $280 from 2010 through 2018, per TicketIQ.com, so it's safe to assume that the 2021 U.S. Open were priced similarly.
