Option A: Browse IRS’s trusted partners and file for free using their tax software if you:
- Have adjusted gross income of $79,000 or less
- Meet other criteria
Option B: Use IRS fillable forms to file for free

IRS Direct File
File your 2023 federal tax return online, for free, directly with the IRS Direct File pilot if you:
- Live in one of the 12 pilot states: Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington state or Wyoming
- Have simple tax filing needs with certain types of income, credits and deductions

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free tax help and e-file for taxpayers who
- Earn $64,000 or less
- Have a disability
- Need language support
- Are 60 years or older
