Snowboarder White to retire after Beijing 2022

American snowboarder Shaun White has announced that he will retire after the Beijing Winter Olympics.

"It will be my last competition, which is pretty special," White said on Saturday.

The 35-year-old is a three-time Olympic champion, having won gold in half-pipe snowboarding at the 2006, 2010 and 2018 Winter Games.

Norway's Therese Johaug has claimed the first gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics, winning the women's 7.5km+7.5km skiathlon ahead of the ROC's Natalia Nepryaeva and Austria's Teresa Stadlober, in a time of 44:13.7.

The USA's Jessie Diggins finished just outside the medals, in sixth, with a time of 45:04.2.
