The first match of the 2022 Men’s FIFA World Cup kicked off at 3am (AEDT) on Monday, November 21, 2022. The tournament was hosted by Qatar, with the final held at 2am (AEDT) on Monday, December 19.

Argentina claimed a third World Cup title after a penalty shootout was needed to decide an incredibly dramatic final with France, the match tied 2-2 at the end of regular time and 3-3 after extra time. Kylian Mbappe became the first man to score a hat-trick in a losing World Cup final, while Lionel Messi scored a brace to cement his standing as arguably the greatest player of all time.

The fixtures were drawn on 1st April 2022 where 32 qualifiers were divided into their eight groups.

The World Cup sees the 32 teams divided into eight groups of four, with each side playing three matches against the other opponents in their group.

The top two teams from each of the eight groups at the end of the first stage advanced to the Round of 16.

From there, it’s straight knockout – eight winners advancing to the quarter-finals, then the four winners to the semi-finals, before the final.

Please note all times are in Australian Eastern Daylight Time, which will be 8 hours ahead of local Qatar time for the duration of the World Cup.
