While the 2022 NFL Draft was just two months ago and the 49ers are contending for another playoff appearance, it is never too early to look at the next batch of prospects that could potentially elevate the roster during the current championship window.

Earlier last week, PFF's Mike Renner highlighted one draft prospect that every NFL team should be watching for the 2023 NFL Draft, and provided an interesting selection for the 49ers: sixth-year USC offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees.

Renner acknowledged San Francisco's lack of a first-round selection in 2023, which is why he went deeper in the class to find a potential talent for San Francisco, although Vorhees could be a Day 1 starter after a breakout season in 2021.

"With no first-round pick to speak of, the 49ers will have to upgrade the interior of their offensive line in other ways. The good news is that's one position where Day 1 starters are commonplace outside the first round. Vorhees should hit the ground NFL-ready as a sixth-year player and fifth-year starter. He had a breakout 2021, where he earned a 90.0 overall grade."

The 49ers selected an offensive lineman early in the draft just a season ago with guard Aaron Banks, who is expected to start next to Trent Williams following the departure of veteran Laken Tomlinson in free agency.

Additionally, the 49ers have also drafted Jaylon Moore, Colton McKivitz, Spencer Burford, and Nick Zakelj in the later rounds of the past three drafts, adding to their current offensive line depth.

While San Francisco may opt to address the best-player-available once again given their draft position, they could look to, once again, draft an offensive lineman if one of their younger players does not develop as they had hoped during the 2022 season.

7-round mock draft from The Athletic sees 49ers fortifying defense early

By David Bonilla

Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week. "Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote. Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football. In fact, Brugler doesn't have San Francisco

Insiders identify late risers who 49ers could target in NFL Draft

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, ESPN contributors have highlighted some prospects who have seen their draft stock rise throughout the evaluation process. Jordan Reid and Matt Miller pinpointed players who could hear their names called at the end of the first round. Interestingly, both of the prospects identified by Reid and Miller play in the trenches but on different sides of the ball. The San Francisco 49ers are widely expected to draft an offensive lineman with their first selection—No. 31 overall. The team mostly ignored the group in free agency. However, it wouldn't surprise many people if the

While most expect the San Francisco 49ers to target an offensive lineman with their first-round pick, NFL Media lead draft writer Eric Edholm has the team going in another direction with the No. 31 overall pick. In his final mock draft of the year, Edholm has the team selecting former Illinois defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton, who also goes by "Johnny." "If you're worried Newton's skill set overlaps too much with that of Javon Hargrave, consider that Hargrave is set to hit the salary cap at more than $28 million in the 2025 season -- when he'll be 32 years old," Edholm explained. "As a relentless scheme-wrecker, Newton would help alleviate the
