How To Play Wordle
Wordle is a browser-based game that is easy to share on social media. It went viral earlier this year, but some people out there have yet to try it. Here are all the rules of the game for anyone who is new.
- Head to the New York Times games site to play Wordle.
- Choose a starting word. It must be a five-letter, real English word.
- There are some words that are offensive or non-American spellings of word that have been censored from Wordle by the New York Times, so even some real words won't work.
- Type the chosen word into the Wordle website.
- Press enter.
- The letters of the starting word the player typed in will change color.
- Green - Correct and the letter is in the correct location.
- Gray - This letter doesn't appear in the answer.
- Yellow - The letter is correct but in the wrong place in the word.
- Given these clues, players have six total guesses to get to the correct answer.
- Letters can be duplicated in answers, as in LLAMA.
- Wordle puzzles reset daily at midnight local time. Since Wordle has no archive now and only has one puzzle a day, players may need to find one of the Wordle copycats if they wish to play more than once per day.
