In 2023, Apple surprised us with three dedicated events.
WWDC in June and the iPhone 15 launch in September were both expected, but few people had predicted another one in October.
This evening event (if you’re based in the US) was dedicated to the Mac, with new M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips revealed alongside the first devices that use them. An updated 24in iMac was joined by refreshed versions of the 14- and 16in MacBook Pro.
But when will the next event be? There are unlikely to be any more in 2023, but Apple surely has big plans for 2024. Here’s everything you need to know at this stage.
When will the next Apple event take place?
Apple’s ‘Scary Fast’ event on 30 October 2023 will almost certainly be its last of the year. We probably won’t see a repeat of 2020, which had a third one in November.
While Apple did announce new products in January 2023, it usually waits until at least spring for a dedicated event. In 2021, there was one on 20 April, while 2022 saw an 8 March event.
But it remains to be seen whether we’ll even see a spring event – there wasn’t one in 2023. If not, the next launch event is almost certain to be WWDC, which is likely to take place in June 2024.
What will Apple announce at its next event?
It’s not clear when Apple will hold its next event, but we can already predict some of the new products that might appear.
New models of iPad seem most likely, with updated versions of the iPad Air and iPad Mini both previously rumoured for the October event. By the time it comes around, Apple may also be ready to announce a new iPad Pro or regular 10.9in iPad.
There are also several Mac devices due to be updated with M3 chips. That includes 13- and 15in models of the MacBook Air, plus the Mac Mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro. It’d be a surprise to see them all announced at the same event, though, and Apple may launch some via press releases instead.
If Apple does hold a spring event, it might announce a new model of the iPhone SE there. Apple left it roughly two years between the previous two generations, which launched in April 2020 and March 2022 respectively.
They might not arrive at the next event, but new AirPods are also expected soon. Updates to the AirPods Max, AirPods Pro and regular AirPods are all rumoured, alongside brand-new cheaper AirPods Lite.
The Apple Vision Pro is already confirmed to go on sale in early 2024, so there’s a small chance that a specific release date will be revealed at the next event.
But we probably won’t see the iPhone 16 or new Apple Watches (Series 10, SE 3, Ultra 3) – they don’t tend to launch until September.
