Are you eligible to use the Marketplace?
To be eligible to enroll in health coverage through the Marketplace, you must:
- Live in the United States (U.S).
- Be a U.S. citizen or national, or be lawfully present non-citizen in the U.S. Learn about eligible immigration statuses.
- Not be incarcerated.

Marketplace insurance covers health care provided by doctors, hospitals, and other providers within the U.S. It's important to consider this if you live outside of the U.S.
A U.S. national is someone who’s a U.S. citizen or owes permanent allegiance to the U.S. In nearly all cases, non-citizen U.S. nationals are people born in American Samoa, or people born abroad with one or more American Samoan parent.
If you live in a U.S. territory, you can’t get health coverage through the Marketplace, unless you also qualify as a resident in any of the 50 states or Washington, DC.
