The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that a Summer Newman (last played by Hunter King) recast is in the works based on Y&R’s new casting call. According to Soap Hub’s report, the show’s looking for someone to fulfill a contract role and ultimately make her debut as the new Summer.
That means replacing Hunter King, who’s currently a recurring player.
King will actually make an appearance in the February 21 episode via video chat with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), who’ll turn down the Marchetti job and urge Summer to come home for a visit in the spring.
Of course, this casting call suggests the new Summer search is happening now, so there wouldn’t be enough time to nail everything down for a spring debut.
We should be looking at a first appearance that happens further down the road.
As for the casting breakdown, let’s talk about the character of Summer and the show’s vision for her as they give her a fresh face.
They’re calling Summer a “dynamic, attractive woman” – and they make a point to mention that she loves to have fun while remaining savvy and refined.
There’s also talk about Summer’s “powerful and rich family,” which is a no-brainer considering she’s the granddaughter of the great Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
Summer’s family identity is a huge part of who she is since the Newmans are one of the most prominent clans in town.
The show also specifies that Summer is in her late ‘20s and that there’s the potential of a three-year contract in the role.
That means Y&R could perhaps have some big stories planned for Summer if all goes well on this casting call.
They definitely see the need for Summer and have the desire for her to stick around.
Since this Summer Newman casting call has been released, we have to wonder what that means for her future with Kyle Abbott (last played by Michael Mealor).
It’s possible the show will eventually recast Kyle, too – or perhaps Summer could come home divorced.
