Sometimes, players just need an escape, a break from the status quo. Fortunately, the developers at Rockstar obliged with Grand Theft Auto Online, the online gaming mode of Grand Theft Auto V that allows players to participate in a variety of real-time missions and activities.

Whether you have done it with friends or jumped in alone, there is a lot to explore in this mode. However, this game is enormous, and there are some things that you were bound to miss as you ran through the streets of Los Santos. Here are some of the hidden details you may have overlooked in GTA Online.

Updated November 26, 2021 by Michael Abayomi: We've updated this list to include two additional entries. One of them can be found at the game's most recognizable landmark, while the other dates all the way back to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

12 Mount Chiliad Murals

Mount Chiliad is a popular site for UFO sightings in GTA 5, so it shouldn't really come as a surprise that it hosts more than one reference to extraterrestrial life.

In the tramway station on top of the mountain, players can find a mural depicting a jetpack, a UFO, and what appears to be an alien egg. A second mural can also be found at the Mount Chiliad Launch Facility. It depicted both a drawing of Bigfoot and the number 27, which players later found out were clues explaining how many peyote plants needed to be consumed to turn into the former.

11 Product Placements

Product placement in video games is nothing new, with some developers even tending to go overboard with how many real-life products they unsubtly place in players' faces.

But when eagled-eyed players first managed to find references to both Sprite and Fanta on the menu of the in-game fast-food chain, Lucky Plucker, it was unclear whether these were merely placeholders mistakenly left in or if Rockstar actually intended to give shoutouts to the popular sodas. Either way, the references can only be seen in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, as they have been replaced in the Enhanced Edition

10 The Secret Casino Missions

An overview of the Diamond Casino and Resort at night

Yes, there are still some secret missions to be found in GTA Online. One involves heading to Penthouse bar and downing a Macbeth Whiskey Shot, and from there, getting the mission is based on pure luck. If successful, you will wake up on the side of the road.

Ultimately, it is up to you to fix a bad situation that you caused while drunk. If this sounds like your speed, there is also another secret casino mission you can jump into as well if you're down for another drunken evening.

9 Grab That Revolver!

We all know that Red Dead Redemption is the western-style version of Grant Theft Auto. However, did you know that you can obtain an iconic weapon from the game?

If you complete a new treasure hunt, you can access the Double-Action Revolver from Red Dead Redemption 2. The crews in Los Santos won't be ready for you when you stroll down the road with a weapon that Marston himself would be proud of.

8 Get The Blue Epsilon Robes From San Andreas

If you have the patience to hang out in the bathroom for long periods, then you might be in for a treat. If you tip the bathroom attendant over 500 times, you will receive some baby blue Epsilon robes, a sweet call back to the cult from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

It is a cool little nod to that weird subplot, and a fun way to get some new clothes if you want to look like a cult leader.

7 Get An Alien Tattoo

We all know that Grand Theft Auto seems to have a thing with aliens. If you also share an affinity for the extraterrestrial, then this detail is for you.

If you complete the Alien Supply Missions, pay attention to the clock (start between 1 am and 4 am), head to the bar during a thunderstorm, and drink until you pass out, you make wake up near Mount Chiliad with a brand new alien tattoo.

6 A Message From Nazar

So, GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption are totally sharing Easter Eggs. At some point during the game, you will meet the mechanical Madam Nazar who recites some random numbers.

If you call the number, you will hear a message from Nazar. The weird part is that she also shows up in Red Dead Redemption 2 as an NPC and does the exact same thing. Remember that weird outhouse scene? Well, this is the same lady.

5 The Downed UFO

Again, the developers of GTA always try to fit in some alien lore or activities. As shown earlier on this list, GTA V is no different. If you head to the northern part of the map (and have a rebreather), dive into the body of water, and swim to the bottom.

There, you will see a sunken UFO. How did it get there? What else does this detail connect to? Who knows at this point? It's obviously the aliens' fault.

4 Sea Monsters

The weirdness doesn't stop with alien lore and cults. The developers sought to add as many weird details as possible to get those theories and questions going, and that includes sea monsters.

If you again take a deep dive into a specific area in the water, you can find the remains of what looks to be a giant sea creature. It could be a whale, but the structure also makes it look like it could be a sea monster of some kind. Why is this one so tucked away? What's the purpose of these remains?

3 The Unmarked Grave

If you head to the top of a mountain in the city, you will notice a wooden cross stuck into the ground. Rocks surround it, but there doesn't seem to be any indication of who is in the grave.

There always seems to be some creative backstory behind most of these little offbeat details, as they add mystery to the game. There may be more to discover about this small detail in the future.

2 The Ghostly Apparition

This one has been discussed a lot, but it is always worth mentioning when considering GTA V hidden details. If you head to Mt. Gordo between 11 pm and midnight, you will see the ghostly figure of a woman.

There is a well-known and unsettling story about who she is and how she got there, which is worth checking out. This one can, fortunately, be found online as well as offline. This figure feels like something out of a Silent Hill game, so go at your own risk.

1 Win A Minigun At A Military Siege!

gta 5 fort zancudo control tower

The control tower may seem like it cannot be accessed, but you can actually enter it and get something for your troubles. If you break into the Fort Zancudo Military Base, you can indeed enter the control tower. That is assuming you got past security, of course.

However, if you defeat the army and get past surveillance before making it to the top of the tower, you will be rewarded with a minigun. Like the Ghost Woman, this one can also be accessed offline as well as online.
