The Bulls surprised a ton of people in 2021-22.

After failing to reach the playoffs for the five previous seasons, the Bulls finally broke that streak this past season, ultimately falling to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

Billy Donovan’s squad was in the running for the conference’s top seed until a turbulent second half dropped them out of the race. But it’s hard to deem 2021-22 a disappointment.

DeMar DeRozan revitalized his career with the Bulls and became a legitimate MVP candidate, while Zach LaVine made his second straight All-Star team last season and thrived alongside DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic.

If LaVine re-signs with the Bulls, they have a nice core to build around.

Where does Chicago land in the draft order? Here is everything you need to know ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Bulls draft picks 2022: When does Chicago pick?

The Bulls own just one total pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. They will make their first – and only – selection at No. 18 in the first round. They do not own any second-round picks.

  • Round 1, No. 18

Bulls draft needs

  • 3-point shooting: The Bulls masked their lack of 3-point marksmen with the brilliance of DeMar DeRozan's midrange game this season, who at age 32, averaged a career-best 27.9 points on some of the best efficiency he’s ever shown. But the reality is, in the modern NBA, you need to have guys that can shoot the ball from long range.
  • Wing versatility: The Bulls need a guy who can defend monsters like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, and also provide something on the other end of the floor as well. Alex Caruso is probably their best perimeter defender, but he gives up inches on guys like Antetokounmpo and Durant.
  • Interior size: The Bulls played long stretches without anyone over 6-7 last season. Without a true reliable big backing up Nikola Vucevic, Chicago ranked 25th in blocks and 22nd in points in the paint allowed.
