WASHINGTON, D.C.--It's tax season and if you are not among those needing to pay Uncle Sam then you're among those who will be waiting for their tax refund. But for how long?

According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website, most refunds will be issued in less than 21 calendar days unless your refund needs additional review. In addition, the IRS notes it could take longer than normal due to pandemic delays.

You can also track your refund status by using the IRS 'Where's My Refund' tool. E-filers can start checking status just 24 hours it has been filed but paper filers will have to wait 4 weeks until they can start to track.

Once the refund is approved, it will be prepped to send to your bank -if you've opted for direct deposit- and could take up to 5 days for the bank receive and credit the funds. Those who are awaiting a check in the mail could have to wait "several weeks" according to the IRS.
