Full list of shops, pubs and restaurants that WILL be open on bank holiday for Queen’s funeral

MANY businesses will close for the Queen's state funeral today as a mark of respect - but some will stay open.

Some supermarkets and petrol stations will be open for part of the day (Monday, September 19) - but they might be on reduced hours.

King Charles III has officially declared the day of Her Majesty's funeral to be a bank holiday - which means most businesses are shutting.

But not every shop will completely close - some retailers and restaurants want to provide for mourners who attend and watch the service today.

But do be aware that opening times will vary, so make sure you check up on the schedule beforehand.

We've listed all the shops, pubs and restaurants which will remain open today, plus what times they'll open at.

Supermarket convenience stores and petrol stations

Most supermarkets like Aldi, Iceland and Lidl will be shut for the entire day on Monday, but some convenience stores and their adjoining petrol stations will open for reduced times.

Tesco

Although all large Tesco stores will be closed throughout the day, some express stores and petrol stations will be open from 5pm.

A small number of Express stores in Central London and Windsor will be open throughout the day, however, to provide for mourners.

A spokesman said: “We want to express our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, as well as our gratitude to Her Majesty The Queen for her unwavering service."

But the company said it would not be fulfilling online orders.

A company spokesperson said: "If customers have a slot booked on that day, they will be contacted to confirm the cancellation and will need to re-book a slot for another day."

It's not clear which branches will open up for restricted hours, so it's best to check with your nearest express store. You can use the store locator to find out where that is.

Asda

Asda is to close all its stores from midnight on Sunday, September 18, to 5pm today - reopening after the funeral service.

Petrol stations will also reopen after 5pm.

A spokesman said staff contracted to work while the stores are closed will receive their normal pay.

Those who work when the stores reopen, will be paid double time for the rest of the day.

The supermarket giant is also pausing its delivery services.

The spokesman added: "As a mark of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, all Asda stores will be closed on Monday, September 19, until 5pm to allow our customers and colleagues to recognise the passing of our late Monarch and commemorate her steadfast service to our nation."

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's said its convenience stores and petrol filling stations will be open from 5pm-10pm to allow customers to pick up essential items.

Select stores in central London will also be open to serve those attending the funeral in person.

However, all large UK stores will be closed all day.

A spokesman said:  “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"In honour of Her Majesty and so our colleagues can pay their respects, all Sainsbury’s supermarkets and Argos stores will be closed on Monday, 19^th September. "

This will also include groceries online and Argos fast track delivery.

Co-op

Co-op is to close its stores until 5pm today.

They will the reopen to customers following the funeral service.

Deliveries will also resume after 5pm.

A number of stores within central London and towards Windsor will remain open during the day to serve customers who will be in the Capital to be part of the funeral.

Morrisons

All Morrisons supermarkets will be closed today, and delivery services will stop, but it will reopen its petrol stations at 5pm.

Morrisons said it wanted its staff to be able to pay tribute to Her Majesty.

Shell

Shell told BBC it would only close its stations between 10:30am and 1pm.

Pubs

Three of the UK's largest pub chains have announced their venues will stay open for the Queen's funeral on Monday.

Wetherspoons

The pub chain will open selected venues today, it has announced.

Pubs outside of London will open after the Queen's funeral at around 1pm.

Some Wetherspoons pubs in London will open at 8am and close at midnight.

But most of the chain's 851 pubs will open later than usual.

Greene King

Greene King, which runs 2,600 pubs in the UK, said the majority of its venues will stay open.

A company spokesperson said: "Our pubs are a place for communities to come together, so all of our pubs in central London and most of those with televisions across the country will be open throughout Monday showing HM Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service.

"For those pubs and restaurants that don’t have televisions, such as our casual dining venues, we’ll be opening after the service.

"Customers are advised to contact their local pub to confirm opening times as these could be subject to change."

Mitchell and Butler

Mitchell and Butler, which runs around 1,700 pubs, restaurants and bars, including Harvester, All Bar One and O'Neill's, said all its venues will stay open on Monday and showing the funeral "where possible".

Customers are urged to check their local pub or restaurant for opening times.

Restaurants

There are also a few restaurants that will remain open for part of the day, so keep a look out.

Domino's Pizza

The pizza chain is closed this morning.

However, from 12pm all stores will reopen after the funeral ceremony has finished, a spokesperson confirmed.

Nando's

Nando's will remain closed until 4pm - but some will be closed all day.

A statement on its website said: "We'll be closed on Monday 19th September until 4pm to pay respect to the Queen.

"Some are closed all day - check opening hours here."

Starbucks

Many Starbucks branches will shut across the UK from 11am to 2pm.

Some stores in central London might stay open to serve the millions of mourners descending on the capital for the funeral.

A statement said: "To support our partners (employees) and ensure they are able to pay their respects to HM Queen Elizabeth II, we will be closing all company owned Starbucks stores in the UK between 11am and 2pm on Monday 19th September.

"There will be variations across the UK as we work with licensed partners, and in Central London, stores closest to the funeral may take the decision to stay open and serve those paying their respects."

Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut's restaurants will open today, but only from 2pm as a mark of respect.

Pizza Hut delivery stores will also open from the same time.

A company spokesperson said: "As a mark of respect, and to enable our teams to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our Pizza Hut Restaurants will delay opening until 2pm on September 19^th.

"From 2pm onwards, Huts will all be operating business as usual, apart from our London-based Huts (Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Marble Arch, Strand) which will be extending the buffet offer until close."

Frankie and Benny's

Frankie and Benny's will close its doors until 4pm.

The restaurant said in a statement: "We will close all restaurants on Monday 19th September until 4pm allowing our teams to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen.

"Those who have bookings before 4pm will be contacted in advance to rearrange."

Bella Italia

Most Bella Italia restaurants will be shut today - although some might reopen later in the day after the funeral.

"As a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II, and to allow our teams time to watch the funeral should they wish to, our restaurants will be closed on Monday 19th September.

"Some will reopen later in the day."

McDonald's

McDonald's will close all of its restaurants as a mark of respect on the day of the Queen's funeral until 5pm.

None of McDonald's 1,300 branches in the UK have opened this morning.

The fast food giant confirmed the news on Twitter.

It said: "In honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and to enable everyone at McDonald's to pay their respects, our restaurants across the UK will be closed until midnight until 5pm on Monday September 19."

It means you'll want to check your local branch to see what time it will reopen before travelling.
