In Florida, What Conditions Qualify for Medical Marijuana?

In Florida, the use of medical marijuana is legal. However, you can’t obtain cannabis without a medical marijuana card. Regulated by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use, Florida medical marijuana cards ensure that people can’t get a hold of medical marijuana without having a qualifying condition, as verified by a physician.

Here, we’ll go over the conditions that can qualify you for medical marijuana in Florida. If you have been diagnosed with a qualifying condition, schedule an appointment with one of the experienced medical marijuana doctors at Tetra Health Care so that you can get added to the MMU registry.

Qualifying Conditions for Florida Medical Marijuana

The Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use requires that anyone who applies for a medical marijuana card must have one of the following conditions:

  • PTSD
  • Seizures
  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Chronic muscle spasms
  • HIV/AIDS
  • ALS
  • Cancer
  • Or any similarly serious medical condition.
  • Patients may also be diagnosed with a terminal condition or chronic malignant pain caused by a qualifying condition.

Getting Approved for Medical Marijuana with a Qualifying Condition

To receive your medical marijuana card, you’ll need to receive a diagnosis for one of the qualifying conditions listed above. The diagnosis will need to come from your primary physician to get approved here in Florida.

To apply for a medical marijuana card after receiving your diagnosis, working with a skilled medical marijuana doctor is ideal. This is where Tetra Health Care comes in, with experience in the process of applying for a card in Florida, our medical marijuana doctor can better help you understand and obtain the medical cannabis that you need for your condition.

After scheduling an appointment with a medical marijuana doctor, make sure to bring a valid Florida ID, proof of Florida residency, and medical records. Your proof of residency may include a Florida State ID, if your ID is out of state you will also need a copy of your Florida mortgage, lease or utility bill in your name. Your medical records may include past surgeries, check-ups, X-ray results, medications, and disability paperwork.

What About A Child With Chronic Disease?

A minor child who has chronic disease symptoms and diagnosis can also qualify for a medical marijuana use card.  Minors will need not only one doctors certification but the state of Florida requires a second opinion as well. Minors however will not be allowed to enter a dispensary, so the state has established that anyone under the age of eighteen can designate a caregiver to help them access medical marijuana for therapeutic needs. The caregiver must be over the age of 21 and is required to be either the parent or legal guardian to the minor.

The caregiver must apply with the minor and will receive a separate medical card. Once the card has been issued, the parent or guardian can legally visit a dispensary to purchase products.  By law, the caregiver then becomes responsible for safely administering and storing medical marijuana for the approved minor.
