You Don’t Have to Wait
It takes up to two to four weeks for the state of Florida to process your application for a medical card after you have your MMJ evaluation. It can take many more weeks or even months before you get your physical card. Luckily, you don’t have to wait.
You can keep your confirmation email on your phone and display it to the dispensary when you arrive. Once your information and patient ID have been added to the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry, you are able to legally purchase medical marijuana at any dispensary in the state of Florida.
There Are Limits
Having a medical marijuana card doesn’t mean that you can buy all the cannabis you want. You are only able to get the amount of cannabis each month that your medical marijuana doctor included on your MMJ recommendation. Most doctors do allow for the maximum amount of smokable cannabis allowed by Florida law. This is 2.5 ounces per 35-day period.
While you can buy the entire 2.5 ounces at one time, it is usually a good idea to buy your medical cannabis on a weekly basis. This will help you use the marijuana before it starts to become stale or lose its potency.
