FL Medical Card Requirements

You must be a Florida resident. There is no age requirement, however, patients under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to register as their caregiver.

To become an FL medical marijuana patient, you will need to have at least one of the following state-approved qualifying medical conditions or symptoms:

• Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by a qualifying medical condition or that originates from a qualifying medical condition and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition.
• Cancer
• Epilepsy
• Glaucoma
• HIV/AIDS
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
• Crohn’s disease
• Parkinson’s disease
• Multiple sclerosis (MS)
• Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to the others listed.
• A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification.

If you have a qualifying condition with medical documentation (such as medical records, pill bottles, office visit summaries, or a letter from a doctor stating your diagnosis), then you're ready to be seen by our doctor to get certified!

If you have a qualifying condition but DON'T have medical documentation, call or text us at 240-356-1000 so that we can schedule you with a doctor that can diagnose and then a doctor that can certify you. We do not charge extra for the diagnosis.

Our licensed marijuana doctor will evaluate you based on your current health condition, medical history, and any documentation you are able to provide as proof. If approved, they’ll enter you into the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry the same day of your appointment. You’ll then receive an email that will allow you to log in to the registry and apply for your Registry ID card.

Florida Medical Marijuana Certification Process

The certification process in Florida is similar to many other medical states. Patients will need to be certified by a doctor and entered into the state registry before being able to access dispensaries.

  • 1
Schedule an appointment with a licensed medical marijuana doctor.
  • 2
Speak with the doctor to find out if you qualify.
  • 3
Apply with the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry.
  • 4
Get your medical marijuana ID card and start purchasing at dispensaries the same day!

The first step in getting your Florida medical marijuana card is to be evaluated and certified by a state-licensed medical cannabis doctor.

It can sometimes be difficult for patients to find a doctor who will certify them. Our clinics will be open soon and we will also be offering online telemedicine evaluations for renewals, making the search for a physician easy for you.

If you believe that you have one of the qualifying medical conditions and have at least one type of proof, then you will most likely qualify. Our doctor can evaluate you, review any medical documentation you are able to provide, and issue your certification so that you can apply for your card.

After you’ve been approved by a Florida medical marijuana doctor and you have been entered into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, your next step will be to log in and apply for your registry ID card. You can submit either an online or paper application, however we highly recommend online applications due to faster processing times and an overall easier process. To apply online, you’ll need:

• To be entered into the state Medical Marijuana Use Registry by a qualified doctor.
• Proof of Florida residency.
• The $75 processing fee.

Our doctor will enter you into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry after your approval. After you’ve been entered into the registry, you’ll receive follow-up emails from the state with your username and temporary password so that you can log in and apply for your card.

Applications take on average 10 business days to be approved or denied. After being approved, you’ll receive your registry ID card in the mail within 7-10 business days. Once you have your card you can immediately access any dispensary in Florida to purchase medical marijuana products.

Caregivers provide a service for medical marijuana patients (including those under 18) who cannot or do not wish to go to a dispensary to purchase their medical marijuana. A caregiver is able to purchase medical marijuana on behalf of the patient as well as help administer the medication. Caregivers are only appointed by patients and must be 21 years or older and register with the state as a caregiver.

No. Insurance companies do not cover any costs associated with medical marijuana due to conflicts with federal law.

Yes. With Florida being an at-will state and there not currently being any legislation in place that protects medical marijuana patients in the workplace, medical cardholders can still be administered drug screenings and receive disciplinary action regarding the results of drug screenings. For this reason, we recommend making sure you are fully aware of your employer’s policy regarding drug screenings and medical marijuana before moving forward with the process.

Yes! You do not have to be seen by the same doctor each year. If you were certified by another medical marijuana doctor last year and would like to switch to Green Health Docs, we will be happy to take care of you!
