Social media platforms have made connecting with people over the internet extremely easy as you can search for people who you’ve met at social gatherings over the weekend on Instagram, Facebook, or several other platforms for that matter.
To look for people on Instagram, you need to have their username, but due to the growing userbase, usernames with the exact names are not available.
In addition to searching users via their usernames, you can also find them via their contact information such as phone numbers. Here are two methods using which you can find someone on Instagram using their phone number.
Finding friends on Instagram using their phone number
To find friends using their contact numbers, you need to have their numbers saved in your phonebook.
Method 1: Discover people option
- Open Instagram and head to your Profile tab at the bottom right of the screen.
- Next, tap on the hamburger (triple horizontal bars) menu icon at the top right corner of the screen.
- Then tap on Discover people under this tab
- Select the Connect option beside Connect Contact option. Instagram will ask for your permission to access the contact list, if not already granted.

Method 2: By Follow and invite option
- Fire up Instagram and go to your Profile via the profile tab at the bottom right of the app display.
- Next, tap on the hamburger (triple horizontal bars) menu icon at the top right corner of the screen.
- Tap on Settings at the bottom.
- After that, tap Follow and invite friends.
- Select Follow contacts and then tap on Allow to give the required permission.
Instagram will show a list of people on Instagram whose contact information you have. You can find the one you wish to connect with and follow them.
