The 2022 NFL Draft is upon us, and Miami Dolphins fans are eager to see who will join Tua Tagovailoa and new coach Mike McDaniel this season.

Of course, they'll have to wait a day or two.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has been busy this offseason, trading for longtime Chiefs speedster Tyreek Hill and sending receiver DeVante Parker to the rival Patriots. He also signed tackle Terron Armstead from the Saints and brought in running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert.

Fearless forecast: Dolphins' top pick in 2022 NFL draft is one of these three (maybe)

But Dolphins fans with a love for the draft will be left waiting for a while. Here's why.

How many picks do the Dolphins have in the 2022 NFL Draft?

Miami has four picks in the NFL Draft, and none until the compensatory section at the end of the third round.

What draft picks do the Dolphins have in 2022?

Here are Miami's picks heading into the NFL Draft:

  • Round 3, pick 38 (102 overall)
  • Round 4, pick 20 (125 overall)
  • Round 7, pick 3 (224 overall)
  • Round 7, pick 25 (247 overall)

Why don't the Dolphins have any first-round draft picks?

Miami traded its 2022 first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles last year as part of a draft-pick trade that landed them wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. The Eagles then traded that pick to the Dallas Cowboys for the No. 10 pick that year, which they used on fellow Alabama receiver Devonta Smith.

The Dolphins had the No. 29 pick this year, too, but they traded it to the Chiefs for Tyreek Hill. Miami also sent their second-round pick (No. 50 overall) and a fourth-round pick to the Chiefs in the deal, as well as fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft.

The Dolphin's third-round pick in this year's draft went to the New York Giants after a draft-day trade last year. Miami sent the 50th overall pick in 2021 and its 2022 third-round pick to the Giants in return for the No. 42 pick, which was used on offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg. New York used its pick on Georgia linebacker Azeez Ojulari.
